The Only Way to Make a Monday Commute Better Is a Spontaneous Singalong

To brighten up a gloomy Monday morning commute in Perth, Australia, Peter Sharp grabbed a ukulele-playing pal and encouraged his fellow train passengers to join him in singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

Sharp even passed out lyrics to his fellow commuters, many of whom were skeptical at first. Eventually, though, most people joined in for a full-blown singalong.

“I think it’s easy to forget the hard-work people put in every day,” Sharp told the Sydney Morning Herald. “I want to contribute to this society, give back to this community and I want to show how easy and simple it can be for anyone to do it.”

By the end, Sharp said he felt confident he’d lifted people’s spirits.

“It created this electricity in the air and when we got off the train there were just smiles beaming from all of the people on the train.”
